1. Ellyn Perrone, Vice President - Government Relations, spoke briefly about the program and team she is putting into place in order for OSU to be more effective at the federal, state and local levels. Editorial comment: Ellyn's aggressive and proactive approaches were well received.
2. Martha Garland spoke about potential changes in summer quarter that are being discussed in CESP. 2 out of 7 seven years, summer quarter is shortened to 9 weeks in order to end by Labor day. CESP has been charged with eliminating this. The change to Sunday graduation also impacts on the calendar. CESP (Chair, John Parson (parson.2@osu.edu)) is beginning discussions and is considering many options including: 8 week summer quarter with a 5 week term, not having a summer commencement, eliminating break week before the start of summer quarter, having exams and commencement after Labor day and other options. Opinions and additional options can be sent to parson.2 or garland.1.
3. John Wilkins reported on the proposed changes in rules for starting and evaluating Centers. One potentially controversial item was in reference to how centers could tap into revenue streams generated by the centers that now go to other units. http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~wilkins/osu_and_ohio/caa/centers/report_0604.html
Comments to Wilkins or David Stetson (stetson.1), Chair of CAA.
4. Heard from the College of Medicine about the proposal to convert the Division of Neurosurgery to a department.
5. Heard an update on the new electronic grade submission interface from Brad Myers, Registrar. They will be doing focus groups and looking for additional input.
